Hanwei 36.5 Single-Hand 11th C Norman Viking Sword & Scabbard. HEMA Sparring, Steel Fighting & Stage Combat BLUNT. Made In Dalian, China by Hanwei Forge. Hanwei's Practical swords are authentically styled, often based on swords in museum collections, but tailored to meet the needs of re-enactment and stage combat. These very popular and affordable weapons feature authentic hilt styling, with fully tempered un-edged and un-pointed blades. They're designed to withstand rugged use while providing the level of safety required by many of today's re-enactment societies.

The blades are crafted from 1065 high-carbon steel, hardened to 50 HRC, which restricts edge-notching to acceptable levels while providing resilience and protection against brittleness. They feature 1/16 wide edges and rounded tips for safety.

The tangs are also substantial, with radiused corners at the blade shoulders and no welds. The end of the tang is riveted over the pommel, which both eliminates any possibility of inadvertent disassembly. The hardwood grips are leather-covered. The scabbards hace a wood grain finish but a fabricated in glass-filled resin to eliminate swelling and minimize blade corrosion, with belt rings that adjust to allow a variety of carry options. The Normans were Vikings that settled in northwestern France starting in the 10th & 11th centuries. X describes swords that were common in that era and remained in use until the 13th century. The blades of these swords are narrower and longer than the typical Viking sword, marking the transition to the knightly sword of the High Middle Ages. His type exhibits a broad, flat blade, 80 centimetres (2.6 ft) long on average. A very wide and shallow fuller runs down each side of the blade, fading just before the point. Weight: 2 lbs, 5 ozs.

Comments : These handle beautifully and are a perfect blend of function and form. Live steel fighting is a demanding application, and like any weapon, it's possible to break, but with a modicum of care this sword should last a lifetime. I'm a collector and a weekend warrior, active in my local Adria group. I sell what I own and can personally recommend.

1566 Spring Steel is a high-carbon and manganese spring steel used by Hanwei in many of their differentially hardened Japanese swords and through-hardened medieval swords. This deep hardening steel provides a consistent microstructure ensuring a long life and excellent edge holding in demanding applications.
